Halloween mystery · Ages 6–10

A little Halloween mystery. No big plan required.

When the evening needs a screen-free pause, set up one gentle family quest with things already at home. Make it spooky-silly, tell a story, and stop whenever you're ready.

A small shared moment for grown-ups and kids ages 6–10.

About 15 minutes

The Midnight Museum

Turn three ordinary objects into mysterious museum treasures with curious names and a made-up story.

Gather

A sheet of paper, a pencil, and three familiar, sturdy household objects chosen by a grown-up.

  1. 1

Pick a curator. Give each object a wonderfully odd name, like “The Moon Moth Button.”

  2. 2

Draw the treasures or write one playful clue about where each came from.

  3. 3

Invite a visitor to ask questions; the curator invents the answers, then switch if you like.

Make it your own: Keep the story silly or calm. A child can draw, tell the tale, watch, or pass. Let a grown-up choose comfortable, sturdy objects; skip anything sharp, breakable, or too small.

Keep the mystery easy

Let the story do the spooky part.

There is no score to keep and nothing to get exactly right. Let kids name the artifacts, ask the questions, or simply listen while a grown-up spins the tale. The fun is making up a little world together.
